Using Realistic Internet Topology Data for Large Scale Network Simulations in OMNeT++
نویسنده
چکیده
Results from simulation models can be used to derive implications for real scenarios only when the model is designed very close to reality. Besides solving the question of how to generate data traffic in the simulation, one has to solve also the problem of how to generate larger realistic topologies. The latter are required in many cases to evaluate protocols and mechanisms with respect to scalability. Instead of using algorithms for generating Internet-like topologies artificially, it is possible to use sources of the Internet’s real Autonomous System topology for generating the simulation topology. This paper describes a first approach of how to make use of such data for OMNeT++ simulations and presents first experiences with this approach.

Realistic underlays for overlay simulation
Overlay networks have become an enabler for innovation in today’s Internet through cost-efficient and flexible deployment of novel services. The self-organization and scalability properties that peer-to-peer-based overlay networks provide have created real-world large-scale systems like Kad, or Amazon’s Dynamo. Building upon the OMNeT++ simulation environment, the OverSim framework provides wid...
متن کاملAutomating Large-Scale Simulation and Data Analysis with OMNeT++: Lession Learned and Future Perspectives
Simulation is widely adopted in the study of modern computer networks. In this context, OMNeT++ provides a set of very effective tools that span from the definition of the network, to the automation of simulation execution and quick result representation. However, as network models become more and more complex to cope with the evolution of network systems, the amount of simulation factors, the ...
متن کاملSimulating Internet Scale Topologies with Metarouting
Research on Internet routing algorithms can benefit greatly by easily repeatable large-scale simulations conducted on realistic network topologies. Unfortunately, it is a challenging task to develop clear and unambiguous definitions of a routing protocol and its associated policies. Simulations often only operate on small scale topologies. Even if simulators could handle very large scale topolo...
متن کاملScaling Network Emulation using Topology Partitioning
Network systems and services are growing in scale and complexity; evaluation infrastructures must scale to study these systems under realistic Internet-like scenarios. This paper studies topology partitioning, assigning disjoint pieces of the network topology across processors, as a technique to increase emulation capacity with increasing hardware resources. We develop static methods to create ...
متن کاملA BitTorrent module for the OMNeT++ simulator
In the past few years numerous peer to peer file sharing, or more generally content distribution, systems have been designed, implemented, and evaluated via simulations, real world measurements, and mathematical analysis. Yet, only a few of them have stood the test of time and gained wide user acceptance. BitTorrent is not just one such system; it holds the lion’s share among them. The reasons ...
